Jacob Martin McConnaughy graduated from Bard College with a Bachelor’s degree in music. He is known for his strong work ethic and enthusiasm for the versatility of the guitar. During his time at Bard, he took courses in jazz history, jazz harmony, composition, & music production. But his experience with guitar far precedes that. He’s been playing for over 10 years, but within recent years picked up a daily practice schedule. This has not only enabled him to bring his ability to the next level, but to understand the difference a little extra time with the right material can make.
Jacob spent his time at Bard playing at house shows and senior concerts that allowed him to hone his skills of playing with groups. He has taken personal guitar lessons under the direction of Bard College professor Matthew Sargent and jazz guitarist Julian Lage, to name a few. Among his heroes, he credits St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, and jazz guitarist Emily Remler as the guitarists with the most influence over his sound. Though his specialty is electric guitar, he has spent a number of hours on acoustic guitar as well, and is comfortable teaching both.
